Integrated Researcher Ana Rita Cruz Contributes to Strategic Dialogue on Cultural and Creative Sector in the Algarve

CinTurs researcher Ana Rita Cruz participated as a guest speaker at the Meeting of the Platform for Innovation and Collaboration for Cultural and Creative Industries, promoted by CCDR Algarve as part of the Regional Strategy for Smart Specialization. The session, held on November 25, 2025, brought together around 90 participants from various sectors.

The new platform aims to boost innovation and collaborative projects that reinforce the role of CCIs in the economic.

Seminar: Design And Tradition: The Encounter Between Craft Knowledge And Contemporary Innovation - The Case Of Projecto Tasa

On 28 November, Raquel Branco, Coordinator of the CinTurs PhD Network, presented a seminar to secondary school students as part of Science and Technology Week, promoted by Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve. This session examined how artisans and designers approach aesthetics, functionality, and symbolism, showing how new products emerge from the collaboration between traditional knowledge and contemporary design practices.

This session illustrated how science, design, and ancestral crafts converge to promote sustainable innovation and cultural heritage.

Call For Papers: Culture, Tourism And Well-Being International Conference

CinTurs is one of the partners in the organisation of the international conference Culture, Tourism and Well-Being: From Heritage to Healing - Experiences, scheduled

for 22–23 October 2026 at the Croatian Natural History Museum in Zagreb. The call is open and invites researchers, artists, and professionals in tourism and culture to reflect on how cultural tourism experiences - shaped by art, heritage, storytelling, emotion, and design - can foster individual and collective well-being. The abstract submission deadline closes on 1 January 2026. More details here.

Book Presentation: Life Skills - From Self-Leadership to the Talent of Organizational Leadership

CinTurs and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve recently hosted the presentation of the book Life Skills - From Self-Leadership to the Talent of Organizational Leadership, by Ferreira Cascão, held on 12 December. This session offered a moment to reflect on leadership and self-leadership, themes central to the author’s work and increasingly relevant in academic and organizational settings. The event featured contributions from Célia Meira, Director of Marketing and Communication at Ombria Algarve, Viceroy Hotels & Resorts, and Luís Serra Coelho, Director of the Faculty of Economics, marking a meaningful close to a discussion focused on self-leadership and organizational leadership.

CinTurs Seminar: Power of Start-up Ecosystem: Case Study Estonia and Lithuania

On 5 December, CinTurs and the Faculty of Economics at the University of Algarve hosted the seminar Power of Start-up Ecosystem: Case Study Estonia and Lithuania. The session was presented by Siniša Pekevski, a visiting researcher at CinTurs and a specialist in strategic communication and entrepreneurship ecosystems, bringing over two decades of experience across the Western Balkans. This seminar explored how Estonia and Lithuania have built strong innovation environments, capable of attracting talent, supporting growth, and scaling ideas globally.

CinTurs Webinar: Tourism's Impact on Urban Waste Production and Managemen

On 9 December, CinTurs hosted the webinar Tourism's Impact on Urban Waste Production and Management.

The speaker was Professor Eduardo Cardadeiro, an economist with a long-standing career in utilities, regulation, and public policy, with both national and international experience. This webinar addressed how tourism influences urban waste systems, the pressures it generates, and the management strategies that can reinforce efficiency, sustainability, and destination competitiveness.

CinTurs Webinar: Evaluation and Conception of the Circularity and its Impact on European Context

On 11 December, CinTurs hosted the webinar Evaluation and Conception of the Circularity and Its Impact in the European Context. This session was led by Professor Ana Cristina Pego, an integrated member of CinTurs and Adjunct Professor at the University of Algarve. Designed especially for Master’s and PhD students, this webinar introduced the core principles of the circular economy, its business models, and its alignment with the European policy framework, with the main aim to provide a grounded understanding of circularity and its relevance across sectors.

On 21 November, Célia Ramos, an integrated researcher at CinTurs, participated as a guest at DevFest 2025, organized by Google Developer Group Faro, where she presented the seminar Artificial Intelligence in Tourism: From Hype to Transformative Reality.  This session was part of an event that has established itself as a meeting point for professionals, academics, and technology enthusiasts. DevFest aims to create a space for serious discussion about artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and technological development.

THE INC 2026

CinTurs is pleased to share the Call for Papers for THE INC 2026, the official conference of ATHENA, which will take place in Faro from 17 to 19 June 2026. This edition’s topic, “Personalisation and Immersive Experiences in Tourism, Hospitality and Events”, invites researchers to reflect critically on the growing demand for personalised and immersive experiences across the sectors. THE INC 2026 welcomes theoretical and empirical contributions with clear academic or practical relevance.  More information is available at the conference website.
